Summary

This qualification should be taken alongside two other A Level subjects. This A Level equivalent Diploma in Criminology course provides an excellent introduction to the subject. The course is a full-time, two-year programme for students aged 16+. It sits well alongside A Level Law, Politics, Psychology and Sociology. The subject explores why people commit crime, drawing on explanations from psychology and sociology, along with how society tackles crime through the law, policing and punishment. In unit one, explore crime types, including e-crime, influences on perceptions, and reasons for underreporting. Unit two delves into crime and deviance, focusing on biological and sociological explanations. Unit three develops skills to review verdict justice in criminal cases, considering evidence like DNA, forensics, profiling, and eyewitness testimonies. Unit four investigates social control organisations and their effectiveness in preventing crime.
