Summary

The pre-pharmacy focus is an advising program to help students select courses and become well prepared for application to pharmacy school.

The steps toward your career as a pharmacist begin by taking the required pre-pharmacy courses, completing your undergraduate degree, and gaining clinical experience. Course work will include general chemistry, biology, organic chemistry, physics, anatomy, and physiology; and additional courses may include statistics, microeconomics, and psychology. Common pre-pharmacy majors include biology, medical sciences, chemistry, and biochemistry. You will also need to seek out volunteer opportunities to shadow pharmacists and to gain clinical experience.

Completing these steps are prerequisites for applying to pharmacy school for four additional years of specialized training.
