Law, J.D. and Accounting
Summary

An attorney with an accounting degree has distinct analytical training and an in-depth perspective of each field, equipping them with a comprehensive approach that helps their clients avoid blind spots when problem-solving and serves as a tremendous asset to any company. An accounting degree adds value in any legal practice, particularly corporate law, securities law, tax law and policy, and estate law and planning.

The dual-degree program at SLU enables students to complete both degrees in significantly less time and expense than obtaining the degrees separately. Eighteen credit hours are cross-applied, bringing the total number of required credit hours from 119 to 101. Students can learn from renowned professors in both schools and tap into each school's respective alumni network while receiving distinctive training rooted in service and ethical leadership.

Students in SLU's J.D./M.Acc. program enroll in the Richard A. Chaifetz School of Business the fall semester following completion of first-year core curriculum courses and complete the M.Acc. coursework in two sequential semesters. During each of these two semesters, students enroll in law courses relating to accounting, business and the student's career goals, taken as business school electives. Students then use the remaining three semesters to complete the J.D. program.
