International Law: Conflict, Security and Human Rights
Summary

Gain enhanced knowledge of contemporary issues affecting the world’s population, such as conflict, security and human rights. You’ll develop an understanding of both international and national efforts to address these.

You’ll undertake a complex analysis of disruptive global events, such as war crimes, genocide, terrorism, displacement of peoples, statelessness and the rights of vulnerable minorities.

As part of your course, you’ll also:

  • Consider how disruptive events act as drivers in the development of international legal norms
  • Study the theoretical underpinnings of the liberal world order – democracy, rule of law and human rights - and apply these concepts to an analysis of current issues related to security and conflict
  • Specialise in legal study to help prevent or resolve conflict, mitigate security risks and protect human rights
  • Understand the role of methodology in producing reliable research
  • Have the opportunity to study unique modules such as Global Security, Counter Terrorism & Justice and Genocide & War Crimes

Study to suit you
You’ll develop your research and writing skills. And you’ll have a good range of modules to choose from, including a dissertation where you’ll explore a relevant topic of your choice under the supervision of a subject specialist.

This award does not require an undergraduate degree in a particular subject. If you’re a law, social science or political science student, this course will enable you to specialise in specific aspects of international law.
